The tight financial condition of most municipalities, the downgrading of the priority of environmental technology investments due to an overall weak economy, and a saturation of certain sub-markets are the main culprits for the rough weather currently buffeting the environmental technology market. Germany and other W. European countries have been especially hard hit, and all segments of the environmental technology market - from water purification to air quality control - are affected. Nevertheless, some companies have been able to swim against the current and - through innovation and tapping new markets maintain and even boost sales.
